So I recently posted about how great Adrian is and all the wonderful things he has been doing while I am prego. That all came to a screeching halt recently. Now call me moody and hormonal (do it and I am likely to bite your head off but that is not the point), but is making your pregnant wife walk uphill in 20 degree weather in high heels appropriate to save $6 in parking fees? I think not. (He will say that it was only a couple of blocks, which is so not the point here Adrian.) And he had the nerve to call me "high maintenance and demanding" for wanting to valet. Imagine how happy I was that night with Adrian. The next day he told me all about how I needed to work out more, which if you read my previous post, did not do anything to help my fragile self-esteem. (And again he tries to say that he used "we" but, unfortunately, the first time he said "you," as in me.)
I have the option of overlooking this behavior but I just cannot do it. I should probably be the bigger person and write it off as typical Adrian behavior but not gonna' happen. It's probably the fact that my body feels taken over by an alien, tends to have aches and pains that are not normal, and will have to eventually give birth. And what would Adrian say to this..."You wanted to be pregnant." Yes, I wanted to be pregnant, I wanted to have a baby, his baby, but I also somehow thought I would get the husband of my first trimester and not the mean husband of my second. Its like Gloria Steinam said, if men had guests like Aunt Flo, Tampax would be government owned and given out free. (I paraphrase but its so true.)
I guess I have Adrian bashed enough (or not, depending on how well you know him). I am going to probably remind Adrian of this parking incident forever, so I suppose that is punishment enough. Its right up there with the story about one of the first times I met him, he called me "chubby" to my face. Some things never change, pregnant or not.

Why does it look so bad?
So I recently saw an unflattering photo of myself in a group...WORST PICTURE OF MY LIFE. I am really hating the way I look lately (gross hair because of extra oil secretions and weight gain). I am not exaggerating here either, I mean I look like a big ol' bowling ball in this photo with acne (another bright spot in pregnancy) and bad hair. Not a happy camper. So after seeing this photo I have now determined that "bad" cravings are simply off limits (well, at least less frequently than perhaps I was eating them). My friend Susan at work (who is gorgeous, single and smaller than my thigh) claims she has been running twice as far on the weekends to make up for her sympathetic pregnancy eating with me (now you can image how I must look since I never ran, never will and certainly don't now). I suppose that I can cut down on the amount of french fries I eat and start eating more fruits and veggies. This whole weight gain thing stinks because if you know me, then you know I struggle with my weight and bounce up and down more than a bouncy ball hitting a brick wall. I may need some positive encouragement, especially now because I have been forced to get new larger clothes that just make me feel fatter, and had to buy new bras because my old ones are literally bursting at the seams (and for all of you who think that you have always wanted bigger ta-ta's, if you are already a bigger girl like me, they just make you look that much fatter, NOT SO FUN)(and it is quite embarrassing when you are at such a large size at Victoria's Secret that they have to call the stock boy and he makes them repeat the size..seriously).
Hmm, I know you are supposed to gain weight but I should probably slow that roll, as I definitely do not want to be the Fat Momma (as in being all baby is one thing but just being a fat girl pregnant is a whole other story...). If you see me eating that crappy food, you have my permission to remind me of this post and when I protest, PLEASE EAT HALF!

Beating the Cravings
You all should be proud, I improved at yoga this week (no tree poses, ha!) and I did not go eat Five Guys (I attribute that mostly to Amanda who met me after class and made me swear not to tempt her which turns out to be a good influence on me as well). The class is getting bigger and about 5 people are due any minute so they will drop out and switch to the Mommy and me class, which is apparently the next social step in my yoga journey (who knew that even Yoga has a social ladder). I am still working on beating the other cravings (french fries, freedom fries, pommes frites, whatever you want to call them) but I figure that its one step at a time. I console myself by saying that not looking at the scale at the doctor's office is a normal reaction...right? I used to only want citrus juices but now they are blah, and I am feeling much more into iced tea. Too bad we are not in Dallas still where you can actually find sweet tea (hello, Chick-fil-a drive through) but DC is just too far north for that except at southern restaurants that the Food Monitor has forbidden.
In other news, the baby bump is growing and even my friend Danielle who sweetly used to convince me that it was all in my head agrees that it is visible. And god bless Sarah-Nell, who is lending me some maternity clothes so I can actually breathe again (because buttoning that top button now is like trying to fit a sausage into its casing, not a pretty sight). (I am also hoping that Paige and Anita can send me some good stuff, as they have impeccable taste as well!) I am feeling better and figuring out that I may have to eat more meals throughout the day to make this baby happy (I swear it is already like Adrian, demanding food all the time, eating 2 lunches 2 dinners, etc...scary thought), because I am all about making this baby happy......

All about Adrian
Adrian has asked for another post and I have decided to dedicate this post to Adrian. I am sure many of you were surprised to hear that we are having a baby--none as surprised as Adrian. Our poor child will have to endure the fact that Daddy always calls Mommy a "liar" when its probably more that she is gullible and believed the doctor when he said it takes 6 months.
So my darling little Adrian has been the perfect husband and father-to-be. He held my head when I had the stomach flu (and, no, it was not morning sickness, I know the difference and this was full blown flu, I caught it from someone at work). He holds my hand at the baby appointments (even though he still complains about the wait). He bought the baby its first book--Curious George, and saved his Harold and the Purple Crayon for the baby. I am pretty sure this is far from the Adrian you knew in high school, college or work, but its all true. As my good friend Amanda has pointed out, he is totally different one-on-one than in a crowd.
Its all of these reasons that I have tolerated the constant food monitoring, denial of basic pleasures (french fries being the top denial), and semi-constant complaining about pregnancy symptoms. I have had to defend my right to get my hair highlighted (because he thought it might poison the baby???), eat pickled bean sprouts (Korean food is so yummy!) and drink ice tea (occasionally, because the Food Monitor will not let me have artificial sweeteners). After all of this, I am pretty sure I know how the post-partum is going to go until I lose all of the baby weight (no eating anything fun, diet drinks only and making me exercise twice a day). (Lucky for me my good friends at work indulge my cravings and let the baby pick the lunch spot!)
Thank you Adrian, you are the best, and you would be even better if you would just let me have more french fries and Mexican food! (Dallas friends I fear when I visit it will be Chuy's, followed by Taco Diner, followed by Matitos--I miss good queso.)

Counterproductive Jealousy
Today was my first day of prenatal yoga. I decided that I would like to be more flexible and that some deep breathing might relax me. What I love about pregnant people is that they have the most intimate conversations with each other that people who are are total strangers tend to avoid (e.g. bodily functions, conception stories, and others, use your imagination). I digress...
The class is cool, there is even a snack time, which, hey, I don't turn down food lately (unless its one of the Forbidden). So before we could get to that we did this whole series of exercises and one was incredibly memorable. The tree pose is hard enough if you are not preggers but if you are more pregnant than me, your center of balance is, well, off. And since I am the least pregnant in my class at this point (by almost 5 weeks and most of them look like butterball turkeys on Thanksgiving), I was thinking that I should be able to handle this one. (For non-yoga folks, the tree pose is where you stand on one leg and bring your foot to your calf or up to your pelvis if you are flexible.) So we start the pose, and I am not kidding, I was the one who was the worst at this pose. There was a lady to my right 34 weeks pregnant with that foot all the way up to her pelvis like she was holding that baby in with her heel. I was trying desperately to keep my foot on my calf and almost fell...TWICE. I know yoga is not supposed to be competitive but I was seriously jealous of those ladies bringing that foot on up...maybe I will get there or not. And to make matters worse they all were able to to do the wall squat (back against the wall and bring yourself down the wall until your legs are bent 90 degrees) way longer than me. I now have a goal: TO BE BETTER THAN THE 34 WEEK LADY IN MY YOGA CLASS. (Let's hope its attainable.)
Just before snack time we had some restful breathing, which was good after all my huffing and puffing through tree pose and wall squats. We were supposed to focus on some happy thought and guess what I was focused on...eating a Five Guys hamburger and fries. I mean I was seriously dreaming about them on that yoga mat while everyone else was all zen. It was so bad that after all my hardwork, I went straight to Five Guys (sorry Adrian, I know you are the Food Monitor but I had to obey the baby's cravings). They had some nuts, fruit and herbal tea for us in snack time and I hauled out of there without socializing because I could literally taste the french fries. (And the worst part about that is that I just look fat now and not so el prego, so I am at Five Guys eating this burger and fries like I had not eaten in months, and I could just see that other people were thinking "like that fatso needs another burger and fries" which is why I sort-of cannot wait to be fully butterballed so that everyone just excuses this type of behavior as "eating for two" although Cara already said that I have been practicing that since childhood.)
Goals for Next Pre-Natal Yoga Class: To improve in yoga and try not to eat a hamburger and go get a salad. Namaste.

Today is the Day

Today we had our 12 week screening and new ultrasound. Baby Azer is so funny--the entire sonogram was pictures of Baby Azer rolling around punching and kicking me. I believe it already has the personality of its father, bored in that womb and just ready to come out and do "stuff".
Anyway, our news is now public and we are so excited.
At 20 weeks (end of March) we will find out the sex of Baby Azer--we cannot wait!
